Why Should I Coach?

Coaching can be a very rewarding experience as you help children learn and grow, both in the game of soccer and in developing positive character traits.

Without a volunteer coach, our children would have no one to guide them on their journey, and ultimately wouldn't have the opportunity to play organized soccer at all.

What Does a Coach Do?

The coach's main job is to create an environment that allows the kids to have fun and learn about playing soccer. The coach is a leader, role model, safety officer, teacher, and soccer ambassador. A coach leads players through training and games.

You don't have to be a "soccer expert" or have prior coaching experience. You only have to be willing to be positive, enthusiastic, and supportive of a group of kids having fun learning to play a sport. We fully support US Soccer's Grassroots Coaching program, and offer short online courses that teach you the basics of coaching soccer. We also offer in-person coaching courses at Coquille.

Practices are generally one night per week (some older teams practice twice per week) . Coaches can choose practice days and times that fit their schedules. Games are on Saturdays at Coquille (5U-10U).

So, to sum it up....

  1. Coach practice 1 night per week (45 mins - 1 hour).
  2. Coach the game on Saturdays.
  3. Teach players the basics of soccer.
  4. Ensure a safe and fun environment for the players.
  5. Communicate with parents and other coaches.
  6. Follow club rules and policies.
